Raymond James Rides to Defeat Diabetes

October 19, 2021

On October 7, 60 Raymond James Ltd riders participated in the 2021 Ride to Defeat Diabetes in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. During the virtual event, participants were encouraged get up and move for a cure by selecting their activity of choice – spin, sweat or stretch.

Our RJL teams raised $21,560 for the cause. In addition, the Raymond James Canada Foundation has generously donated $5,000 plus $150 for each RJL participant, bringing our grand total to $35,560!

All proceeds from the event go to JDRF’s fight to turn Type 1 into type none. JDRF is the leading global organization funding Type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s mission is to accelerate life-changing research breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications.

Greg Jizmejian, Estate Planning Advisor at Raymond James, organized the event for RJL and has been involved with JDRF for over 15 years: “As a father, witnessing a colleague and friend receive the news of his 5 year old son being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes changed my perspective for life. I feel I owe it to parents of children with T1D to do something. I am filled with gratitude every day for my daughter’s health and am inspired by the way these parents and their children do amazing things despite this disease.”

Of the 12 RJL teams that participated, “Ride and Seek” came out on top with the highest per capita fundraising amount. Ride and Seek, led by Cathi Muncaster from the 3Macs office at 200 King Street in Toronto, raised a total of $3,749 from their eight team members. They have been awarded bragging rights and a luxurious basket filled with goodies.
