Volunteers are the heartbeat of the Canadian charitable sector

April 23, 2020

April 19-25, 2020 is National Volunteer Week in Canada. It is a week to celebrate the over 13 million volunteers across the country.

Charity Fast Fact: 54% of charitable organizations are run entirely by volunteers

Volunteering is at the heart of who we are as Canadians, with over 82% volunteering informally (helping others directly without the involvement or an organization or group). These activities include housework, home maintenance, health-related or personal care in the communities where we live, work and play.

Every year Raymond James associates and advisors volunteer thousands of hours in their local communities.  Raymond James provides a paid day of leave so that our colleagues may volunteer on a community project, get out of the office and contribute with boots on the ground.  In 2020, RJ Cares will look very different. COVID-19 presents many restrictions to these efforts and that is why we are asking our colleagues to find meaningful ways to contribute – in ways that are possible and safe.

We have called upon everyone to help where they can, whether it’s giving blood, delivering groceries or medicines, packing food hampers, making meals and just checking in on family and friends to reduce the negative impact from isolation.  We are all in this together; and together, we can make a difference.
