Curling for a Cause: Pacific Sport Fraser Valley’s Sweepstakes For Sport
March 5, 2019
Canada is the home of hockey…and curling! On November 30, 2018, Pacific Sport Fraser Valley held the first annual Sweepstakes for Sport Bonspiel Fundraiser at the Langley Curling Centre. The event, presented by Matt Redshaw Wealth Management at Raymond James Ltd, raised a total of $8,700 for the Powering Sport Fund, which supports local athletes in their journey to the podium.

“It is inspiring to see young people become not only active but exceptional at sports with the support of their programming” Matt says, explaining his motivation to get involved with Pacific Sport Fraser Valley. “These are kids who may not otherwise have had access or exposure to the resources needed to excel.”
The Powering Sport Fund promotes physical literacy and activity through a range of local initiatives, from grassroots activities to high-performance athletics. Through their expert training programs and resources, every young athlete in the Fraser Valley has the opportunity to achieve their goals.
At Sweepstakes for Sport, guests enjoyed a lively afternoon of corporate competition and camaraderie. The event was inclusive and lively – no experience was necessary to participate in the modified curling games, and organizers advised that ‘yelling is an asset.’ Over 100 participants, athletes, coaches, and local businesses got involved to encourage children and people of all ages to engage in physical activity and quality sport right in their own community.
In support of Matt Redshaw’s involvement, the Raymond James Canada Foundation was pleased to issue a grant in support of Pacific Sport Fraser Valley. Matt presented cheque to two young and successful athletes, Maggie Coles-Lyster, a cyclist, and Alex Brent, a kayaker, who have benefitted from the Powering Sport Fund.

The inaugural event was a huge success, thanks in part to Matt’s involvement: “I wish to extend my utmost gratitude to yourself and Raymond James. We received comments from an overwhelming number of people that the event was a lot of fun for all in attendance. This contribution will go a very long way for our initiatives, and for that we are very grateful” by Chelsea Craig, the Communication and Partnerships Coordinator for Sweepstakes for Sport.
The Raymond James Canada Foundation is honoured to support Matt Redshaw Wealth Management and Pacific Sport Fraser Valley in their mission to ensure that the Fraser Valley is home to healthy youth, and elite athletes in the making.
