2018 RJCF Community Leadership Award: Congratulations Christina Chow!

November 23, 2018

Congratulations to Christina Chow, recipient of the 2018 Community Leadership Award presented by the Raymond James Canada Foundation. Christina was honoured for her work on the RJCF Advisory Committee over the last 3.5 years, and for her extensive volunteer involvement.

The award was presented on October 27 at the Raymond James Ltd. National Business Conference in St. Petersburg, Florida. The theme of the conference was Elevate, and nothing elevates our business more than giving back to our communities.

Christina’s longstanding passion for volunteering and philanthropy stems from her love for Calgary, her hometown. “As a proud Calgarian, born and raised, I know that a spirit of giving is written into our DNA” says Christina.  “Whether it is a celebration like the annual Stampede, or an emergency like the 2013 floods, we all pitch in to make a difference.”

Christina incorporates philanthropy into every facet of her life. Giving back is an essential part of her financial practice, her social circles, and her family life. Over the last 17 years with Raymond James Ltd., Christina has helped her clients and her colleagues in their philanthropic pursuits.

This year, Christina is the co-chair and presenting sponsor of the Taste of Home Gala, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern and Central Alberta’s biggest fundraising event. The event is set to raise an incredible $250,000for the cause, but Christina’s involvement is also hands-on.  She has helped prepare a home cooked meal for families at Ronald McDonald House Charities Southern & Central Alberta. These meals help ease the financial and emotional burden suffered by families who are away from home while their children receive medical treatment.

In 2015, Christina was named an Ambassador for Role Mothers, an initiative by Market Mall in Calgary that celebrates busy, active moms who give back to their communities and teach their children the value of giving. “I’m always inspired to give back in a way that involves my children and the younger generation. It’s important to teach them core values; respect, trust, responsibility, compassion and dedication. Volunteering encompasses all of these,” says Christina.

She has been actively involved with the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta for over 20 years, raising thousands for the cause. To support “the greatest outdoor show on earth” in the city she loves, Christina has been on the Calgary Stampede Foundation committee for over 12 years. In 2013, she was also recognized as 1 of 1300 Heroes of the Flood for volunteer efforts when disaster struck in 2013.

Despite her busy schedule, Christina is well-known as the RJ Cares leader who supports her colleagues in their volunteer efforts. “She’s a cheerleader!” explains Shelley Harding, Branch Administrator. Branch Manager Doug Pinder agrees, “a wise man once said to me, if you want a project done right give it to the busiest person you know. That really sums up Tina Chow.”

Congratulations Tina!
